1. What information do we collect?

We collect information in two ways: through your own disclosure while using the Services, and automatically through our technology.

Personal information you disclose to us

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us such as name, address, contact information, passwords and security data, and payment information.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when registering at the Services expressing an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and services, when participating in activities on the Services or otherwise contacting us.

As a general matter, we collect personally identifiable information – name, title, email address, mailing address, telephone number, social media information, and demographic data – only when you voluntarily choose to provide it to us. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make and the products and features you use.

This happens when you:

* sign up to receive our newsletter or other communications;

* create your account and/or donor profile;

* request information or assistance;

* send an email or call us (including one of our employees) through the contact information provided on the Site;

* provide user-generated content on any part of the Site that permits it;

* respond to, inquire about, or apply for an employment opportunity on the Site; or

* interact with giveback pages or accounts on social media platforms – e.g., click on our social media links and/or provide information to us on those accounts.

In addition to the above, we may collect certain information about you whenever you visit our Website. We also collect other information that relates to you whenever you visit the Website. Such information may include the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer, mobile device or other devices you used to access the Website, the type of browser and operating system you used, the date and time you visited the Website, the Internet address of the site from which you linked to the Website, the links you follow from the Website and the reading history and other analytics related to how visitors to the Website use and view the content we’ve provided.

The personal information we collect can include:

  • Personal information that you provide, such as your full name, current address, phone number, email address, financial information (such as bank account number and routing number), income and giving levels, and other similar data.

  • Login Credentials. We collect passwords and similar security information used for authentication and account access.

  • Payment Data. We collect data necessary to process your payment if you make contributions to your giveback charitable giving account.

All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.

Information automatically collected

In short: Some information — such as IP address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services.

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our Services and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes.

Like many businesses, we also collect information through cookies and similar technologies. We collect devices, tools and protocols, such as IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, cookie identifiers, or others such as the ones used for analytics and marketing, device geolocation, and other similar data.

giveback uses “cookies” to enhance your experience while visiting the Website and to measure aggregate web statistics, such as collecting the number of visitors to the Website, the number of repeat visitors, and the most popular web pages.

Please note that you may choose to set your web browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you choose to turn off cookies, however, some parts of the Website may not function properly.

We indicate the specific processing grounds we rely on next to each purpose listed below.

giveback uses the information described in this Privacy Policy primarily to communicate with you where requested, and to enhance your experience on the Website. More specifically, we may use the information to respond to specific inquiries and requests; add you to our mailing lists; manage, supervise or send our outreach, newsletter and other communications; contact you regarding your giving account and portfolio; process any registration or similar information you provide; improve our services, sites, facilities, events and other programmatic operations; communicate with you about a donation or processing a transaction; better understand how visitors use the Website so that we can improve the Website or its offerings; or comply with applicable law, court order, subpoena, or legal process.

We use the information we collect or receive:

We may use your information for other Business Purposes, such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns and to evaluate and improve our Services, products, marketing and your experience. We may use and store this information in aggregated and anonymized form so that it is not associated with individual end users and does not include personal information. We will not use identifiable personal information without your consent.

If you sign up to receive the giveback newsletter or any of our other mailings, we may contact you with information that we think will be of interest to you. If at any time you wish to stop receiving these communications, please email giveback at [email protected] and ask to be removed from giveback’s email list.

  • Vital Interests: We may disclose your information where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding potential violations of our policies, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person and illegal activities, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

More specifically, we may need to process your data or share your personal information in the following situations:

Examples include: payment processing, donor-advised fund sponsor, data analysis, email delivery, hosting services, customer service and marketing efforts. We may allow selected third parties to use tracking technology on the Services, which will enable them to collect data about how you interact with the Services over time. This information may be used to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content and better understand online activity. Unless described in this Policy, we do not share, sell, rent or trade any of your information with third parties for their promotional purposes.

  • Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.

5. What is our stance on third party websites?

In Short: We are not responsible for the safety of any information that you share with third-party providers who advertise, but are not affiliated with, our websites.

The Services may contain advertisements from third parties that are not affiliated with us and which may link to other websites, online services, or mobile applications. We cannot guarantee the safety and privacy of the data you provide to any third parties. Any data collected by third parties is not covered by this privacy policy. We are not responsible for the content or privacy and security practices and policies of any third parties, including other websites, services, or applications that may be linked to or from the Services. No purpose in this policy will require us to keep your personal information for longer than 1 year past the termination of the user’s account.

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

7. How do we keep your information safe?

In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, please also remember that we cannot guarantee that the internet itself is 100% secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, the transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the services within a secure environment.
